* OSX
Posted on August 3rd, 2009 by mdl. Filed under Geek Stuff, Updates.
My main machine is at the 3.5 yr old mark and showing its age pretty badly recently
Sadly more and more of OSX’s little quirks are popping up. One of the must frustraiting that was supposed to have been taken care of, is when the the machine is on screen saver, you wake it up and it should throw the password box to sign back in… Nope… Black arrow, no box, no options. Most of the time the machine can be left alone and will go back in to screen saver mode and you can trrrrryyyyy again. Well right now I’m copying photos to an external drive to TRY and make room for some video work and this magical screen trick happened, so I have no clue where I am in my file copy
sadness.
* Paper Toss
Posted on July 14th, 2009 by mdl. Filed under Geek Stuff.
I just downloaded Paper Toss for the iPhone at Bryan’s recommendation and let me just say, it is SWEEEEEEET! Just the app I’ve been looking for
I’ve wanted a game to mess with while I find myself waiting for things, and this is it. If you have an iPhone or an iPod touch you’ve got to check it out.
* Intial thoughts of iPhone 3 beta
Posted on March 26th, 2009 by mdl. Filed under Geek Stuff.
- Copy & Paste – awesome
- Camera – there is a little box with the picture you just took in the lower left, tap it and it takes you to the photo section. This makes me happy, I wouldn’t have called it a frustration before but this is nice.
- Voice memo – kinda neat, something you could probably do on other phones for a long time… This is not something I have paid much attention to in the past, but what I realli like about this is I can email seamlessly email that recording
- No video recording app….yet….
- MMS, I could be an idiot, but I’m not seeing it. Engadget is saying the holdup is AT&T not Apple at this point.
- Landscape mode keyboard in most applications, FINALLY
That is my quick and dirty on the beta. Thanks to Noel for tossing it on his blog, which allowed me to scamper over to Single Grain fast enough to get it
I’m feeling like an uber geek having a Beta OS on my primary phone…
* 50mm fun
Posted on March 20th, 2009 by mdl. Filed under Family & Friends, Geek Stuff, Photos.
I snagged Pete’s 50mm f1.8 @ the pancake dinner tonight and started playing with it. I tossed a couple up on flickr, not many keepers considering I was just playing and trying to spend more time meeting and talking with people than messing with my camera…. Which I probably failed at, but hey I did meet some cool new people, including Carin (hope I spelled that right). And Carin let me just say you probably get the most comments on you blog of any non pro blogger I’ve ever seen. With some poking around I found her photography site, I love meeting photogs, and I love it more when they put their work online
I think of the hand full I shot, I think I like this one the most:
* Microphone makes iPods that much cooler
Posted on February 24th, 2009 by mdl. Filed under Geek Stuff.
I think this is awesome! I don’t exactly have a use for it, but I think the idea of using an ipod as a digital audio recorder is very cool. Its a tiny microphone that plugs into iPods and gives them the ability to record audio. Best thing yet they are only like 15 bucks.
Mini microphone spruces up voice recording possibilities on iPhone / iPods – Engadget.
* Long overdue

Google has released a beta of its “sync” feature for the iphone / ipod touch
Pros: full on push functionality of the contacts and calendar.
Cons: for me, I couldn’t care less about the contacts. I manage my contacts in address book (mac only) and I think that is just fine for what it is. Calendar, I’m totally bummed that it won’t sync shared calendars. Diana shares a calendar with me of her school schedule and random things she decides to put on there. Through nueva sync, this stuff used to show up…not so with google’s sync.
Put I think I’ll stick with this solution as I can edit appointments pushed down to it, unlike nueva sync.
Thanks Google, bout time, but thanks.
* Have an iPhone or iPod touch and Google Calender?
Posted on December 12th, 2008 by mdl. Filed under Geek Stuff, Updates.
Awesome Pete tipped me off to a new service from startup NuevaSync. The service essentially enables you to use your Google Services (gmail – which I don’t think is working yet, gcal, and contacts) via the Microsoft Exchange integration on the iPhone or iPod touch.
I enabled the calendar syncing and it works beautifully! It automagically syncs (wirelessly) with all of the calendars that I have “write” rights to, meaning my calendar as well as Diana’s. I’m sure it will work better when Google gets it to gether and does it themselves and doesn’t make me go through a third party. But for the time being, this works fine for me
* Google cal in gmail
Posted on October 28th, 2008 by mdl. Filed under Geek Stuff.
Google labs just released a gadget so you can view your 5 most recent google docs, and your google calendar on the left toolbar inside of gmail.
To add this, just go to settings (in the upper right corner), click the “labs” tab, scroll all the way down and you will see the calendar gadget and the google dogs gadget, just click the enable button.
This makes me very happy, you have no idea.
* I love tech
Posted on October 15th, 2008 by mdl. Filed under Geek Stuff.
I am currently cruising down the highway…. My laptop is tethered via bluetooth to my work cell phone to get me onto the internet, and both devices are plugged into a power inverter running off of the car’s cig lighter for power.
Complete geekery.
Now I am curious if I can video chat like this
