* Back in the saddle

Posted on January 5th, 2009 by mlilly. Filed under Updates.

1. I am back at work.

2. I now have the cold that EVERYONE around me seems to have.

3. I still can’t lift anything or exert myself in anyway…stupid stint…

4. As if Fisherman’s Friends were not bad enough, they are worse with dark coffee.

5. I almost don’t care how bad this week of work could be, its good to FEEL like I’m getting back to normal.

* I’m special

Less than 1% of patients on Cipro experience hiccups as a side effect.  I am one of those lucky sub 1% people.

Grrrr….hiccup…..grrrrr….

* MMMM chocolate shake

Posted on December 20th, 2008 by mlilly. Filed under Updates.

Since the surgery I’ve been dying for a chocolate shake, and on the way home from Diana’s family’s for Christmas today we snagged some shakes.  This was in fact a great move, the shake was even better than I had hoped.

So I think you should go get one too, you’ve been good this year right?  ;-)

* Have an iPhone or iPod touch and Google Calender?

Posted on December 12th, 2008 by mlilly. Filed under Geek Stuff, Updates.

Awesome Pete tipped me off to a new service from startup NuevaSync.  The service essentially enables you to use your Google Services (gmail - which I don’t think is working yet, gcal, and contacts) via the Microsoft Exchange integration on the iPhone or iPod touch.

I enabled the calendar syncing and it works beautifully!  It automagically syncs (wirelessly) with all of the calendars that I have “write” rights to, meaning my calendar as well as Diana’s.  I’m sure it will work better when Google gets it to gether and does it themselves and doesn’t make me go through a third party.  But for the time being, this works fine for me :-)

* Where have I been?

Posted on December 12th, 2008 by mlilly. Filed under Updates.

My feed reader is clogged with unread junk.  None of my podcasts download anymore because I have not listened to them recently.  I have not updated this here blog in quite some time.  My camera is picketing the front of my house for some lovin.

Simply said, school district pre-Christmas Break = frazzled.  The last few days kinda built up to yesterday turning into a heads down day…  I tucked my head down and ran into my workorders like a linebacker.  Luckily I got a handful done so hopefully I can concentrate on the other big projects looming over my head.

Yesterday I could feel my heart beat all day long, I don’t think that was good for my already bad blood pressure.  Towards the end of the day I just cloooosed my door, flipped on some Chris Boti and that seemed to calm me down.  When I die, “Time to Say Goodbye” will be playing on repeat in the background…..

* Network madness

Posted on December 8th, 2008 by mlilly. Filed under Updates.

We are converting from a Novell Network to mixed network with Microsoft.  We had some consultants build out some active directory synchronization and now its off to the races joining machines to the domain.  To bad its a slow painstaking process moving over every user’s documents and settings to the new machine profile.

Like a galloping herd of turtles we press onward.

* AAAAAAAHHHHH HAAAAAAAAA!

I got it.

While sitting and watching some movie of Katie’s….  Sorta, I wasn’t watching, it was on, I simply noticed what seemed to be going on.  But I think I found the key.

Why do women like being chick flix?  Because they love being miserable…  They love being miserable because it is our job as men to make them feel….unmiserable…  And if we cannot, then we are as miserable as the movie was.

Talk about freaking miserable.  These movies represent my biggest fears.  Not the biggest one, but two of the top 3.  Proverbs says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  That is fear number 1, thus not represented in chick flix.  Mike’s number 2 fear: as represented in PS I Love you…  I die, and Diana is stuck wallowing in misery.  I trust she would pull through, move on and lead a blessed and wonderful life.  But it is still a huge fear, that the preparation and love I’ve given her somehow isn’t enough to help her through the pain I would imagine that would ensue.  Mike’s number 3 fear: as represented in Grace is Gone…  I didn’t see much of this movie at all, but the gist is (**spoiler alert**),  wife dies and leaves husband with two kids (daughters to be exact).  That is my third biggest fear in the world, having kids, then losing their mom (like my uncle)……

Ugh…  Chick flix are written and produced to torture the men these women are attached to in one way or another.

* Ridiculous

So, in the last little bit, Mason has prooved not to be the awesome safe little town I thought.  4 break-ins in one night last week ( so I’m told ).

And this evening, Roxie was barking like a banshee and I go open the door to let her in, and there are two young guys walking through my yard.  One has a black head band around his shaved head (not skin tight, but shaved) the other has his hood pulled over his head.  Seriously walking through my freaking back yard like they own the place.

Enough to piss me off, alot.  I grew up in the country.  I don’t mean to sound like a hick, but seriously, that kind of crap got a shot gun racked in your ear…  Its one thing to see some one shady walking down the sidewalk, its something else to watch someone walking in your flipping yard….between yourhouse and your neighbors…

I called Todd, a friend of mine, one of Mason’s finest if you know what I’m saying and he told me to get their names but not worry about it to much.  He reassured me that the only calls he gets do not concern any houses behind mine.  I don’t mean to sound harsh, or tougher than I am, but I don’t care that I’m in the city.  There is a side walk, and I shoveled it, stay out of my frickin yard.

* Money well spent

RivVenue hosted The Reverand Peyton’s Big Damn Band, and The Avett Brothers last night.

I am a cheepskate, I rarely spend money to go to concerts.  I hardly even buy cd’s I just load all kinds of stuff on my streaming radio and rock out that way…  But I trusted Dan Price’s judgement in bringing in these guys, and all I have to say is the man was right.

My wife, who absolutely HATED The Avett Brothers after watching a few you tube videos, had just as much fun as I did.  Peyton’s band was hilarious, I couldn’t hardly understand them, but they had me at “your cousin is on Cops.”

I promptly bought there most recent album “emotionalism” on itunes this morning…  Nothing says good morning on a Monday like Paranoia in B Major ;-)
