Attention Mrs Granholm: This One is For You

I think Michigan needs to look at this.  Utah is going to a 4 day work week.  This will save the State tons of money in not having the buildings open, as well as not paying to run vehicles, AC / Heat, lights, etc.  Their employee morale will be better as they will have a year long string of 3 day weekends.   Its just an experiment mind you, but it looks good to me!

Now I’m not a state employee, but this is something one of my friends has been saying for a while…  I’ve always agreed and thought it was a good idea, but I never figured any one was listening, nor that any one would follow through.  Good on you Utah.  I would take four ten hour days over five eights any day.

**added bonus, think of the additional revenue that would go back into our economy if all State Employees have Friday’s off.

Spam

Today now marks a crappy day in history that a spam bot got a hold of my blog.  It is interesting that it has taken this long, and also the site it pointed back to didn’t make any sense.

The bot must have looked @ sites linking back to the Flobot’s video on youtube…  There was another site that had referenced the No Handlebars song that had gotten tagged as well.  They then linked to me and quoted my blog post.  Nothing more nothing less.  Their site had probably about 50 different instances of pretty much the same thing happening to other bloggers.  There were no comments on any of the links so I think the page serves mostly to try an snipe adsense dollars.

Now I get to try and figure out how to keep that from happening without making it a pain for my peeps to comment on my posts if they wish.  Stupid spam.

***Upon further review, the site even goes so far as to warn people from spamming them, oh the irony.

Touche, OPEC Drank My Milkshake

Love him or hate him Glen Beck had an interesting tidbit-o data that caught my attention.

“Considering the average amount of gas used per household, the rise has cost us approximately $1,690. With the average 42-inch plasma screen going for $975, just the extra cash you’ve forked over for gas in the last year and a half could have bought you 1.733 plasma TVs. And that number just keeps rising.”

Now, I can’t complain…  I drive 5 minutes to work, Di drives about the same.  No big deal, the gas prices are not killing us, its not fun, but it is not impacting us like it is hurting my friends / family / country.  But to see that the average home is spending enough to have nearly bought 2 flat screen TV’s (a luxury I have not yet allowed myself), is kinda sobering.

Thursday July 3rd: Office Quote

“I am ok with losing every single contest.  My strategy is to compliment everybody else and in general just have a good time.  That way they remember me as a good sport, which I will use to my advantage in a contest I care enough about to cheat in.”

Backbeat the word is on the street…

Last night once I finished practicing I turned to Di and said “well I’m getting good enough that you can tell what the song is that I’m bad at.”  And for me that was at least encouraging.  But what surprises me most is that I didn’t try to learn this song (Wonderwall) before.  I mean, youtube didn’t exist when I was 15 trying to learn guitar the first time….plucking “joyful joyful we adore the” out of a book in my basement wondering if this was how everyone does it.  If I would have ran acrossed this song then, I don’t think I would have quit.  Within 4 minutes Di had the cords pretty much figured out and she’s never touched a guitar in her life…

Em7, G, Dsus4, A7sus4.  You only have to move 2 fingers the whole song, IT IS PERFECT!  Yes you are SUPPOSED to use a capo to get the actual sound they do, but it works for me even without the capo.

HERE is a link to the guy who taught me this one.  Honestly once I get this down, I just might go buy a keyboard so the collective knowledge of youtube can teach me that too :-)  For me that sums up the power of social networks.

Silly Rabbit

I checked my feed reader out of habbit this morning @ work…  Not like any of my friends would have updated their blog since 1 am when I couldn’t sleep and was catching up on all the news since I checked out of the world last Thursday.

Between Thursday afternoon and Sunday evening I noticed I had just about 1000 unread items in my feed reader, so by Tuesday night it was worse.  Oh well, no big deal when I only skim anyway…

To bad friends like Jim don’t blog, right Holly?  Wouldn’t Jim’s blog be interesting if he used it?  Cough - hint - guilt - pile it on.

Caution Wet Paint

Di and I painted the hallway yesterday and today…  Why would it take two days you ask?  Because it is stupid thats why.  There is not a ladder on this planet that reaches high enough, nor one that can accomodate the height as you are away from a wall to rest the legs on.  What does this lead people to?  This leads people to doing desparate / stupid things with multiple ladders.  Di took a picture to be able to show some people.  I refuse to put them up here because this pretty much tops my list of REALLY stupid things I did but knew I shouldn’t have done.

I’m just thanking God my kneck is still in one piece, and Di’s kneck for sure…  She was the one doing the super risky stuff because she figured she’d be better off up there than crushed if the ladders didn’t hold with me on them :-\

Oh well, blessed and done.

Drop…Dead…Tired…

Up at 3am.  Hit the park / ride @ about 5:20, airport @ 5:35, ticket line 5:40, tickets in hand @ 6, Through security and @ gate 6:10, Boarding plane 6:25, in the air by 7:10, landed in Baltimore 8:12.  Rental car, quick bite to eat, a handful of phone calls and some GPS issues (finding DC is harder than it would seem), in DC shortly there after…  Walked till our legs where about to fall off, THEN Di’s cousin showed up and we went to some more awesome stuff.  They where great, but we were doing all we could just to keep up.  Called it a day @ 5:45 pm.  Walked to the parking garage, took like 2 hours to do a 45 minute drive…  Rush time + weekend traffic out of DC was a chore.

The hotel is OFF THE HOOK!  Pics of DC and hopefully the hotel to come later.  For now I’m cashing in my chips and calling it a night (10:45 pm).

ciao  :-p

Wince

Baltimore MD pretty much going to be mid 90’s all weekend.  With scattered t-storms.  Really hoping that I don’t get stuck in an airport waiting on weather.
